Jess' life has never been ordinary. After all, life on the road with an immortal family of gypsies is hardly predictable. Living in the small town of White Salmon, Washington has brought some normality to her life. But when her cheating, sometimes boyfriend, Nicu, gets involved with a group of arachneshifters, life gets a little sticky. Will she be able to save him from the web he's spun? More importantly, how much is she willing to risk to get him back?

My Review

I haven't read many paranormal books about shifters or immortals so I was interested to see what it would be like.

I thought this book had a lot of good elements but there were some parts I wasn't too keen on. Some of the characters rubbed me up the wrong way but it was very interesting and some of the different plot twists were great!

Spiders are definitely not my favourite creatures and reading about their creepy-crawliness is not usually something I'd like but I quite liked them in this story. They really added to the creepy atmosphere.

As evil as it is to say this, I enjoyed the brutality of the book. It wasn't light and fluffy, trying to hide from dark, scary subjects. Spider Wars embraced the darkness and wasn't afraid to delve into the nitty-gritty of war. It weaved through the pieces of light in a twisted, creepy battle and I loved that!

Unfortunately I didn't feel a very strong connection to the main character. In some places I was cheering her on and in others it felt like the only reason I wanted her to succeed was because she was the good guy. I started to feel a stronger connection in the second half of the book though which made the book a heap more enjoyable. Lora was my favourite character and so I want to check out Loramendi's Story to learn more about her and Chance!

The description was good and I was left with a lot of questions (but not too many) so that there's a good pull to read the rest of the series. I liked the idea of the story but felt it was a bit too complicated in some respects. Though it wasn't the best book I'd ever read I did enjoy it and I'd recommend it to any fans of Angela Carlie or paranormal lovers.
