Trinity Hartell’s life changed after the accident. Left with irreversible brain damage, she becomes a burden to her mother, a cause for heartbreak for her boyfriend Zack, and a flattened obstacle for her best friend, Ellie.

But then she starts writing. Perhaps it’s a coincidence that the psychotic, murdering protagonist of her novel bears a striking similarity to the charming Wiley Dalton, a mayoral candidate in the upcoming election.

Or, perhaps not...

My Review

This book was definitely not what I was expecting.. and I loved it! It was written in third person and followed the lives of several main characters. Even though we were hearing things from different perspectives, I still felt like I knew each character.

I loved Trinity! Even after the accident she was still a sweetheart and it was horrible seeing all the bad things happen to her. Zach was another of my favourites; no matter what happened he wouldn't give up on Trinity, wouldn't stop loving her. It was a beautiful relationship all the way through.

The other characters were all gorgeously written, both their faults and redeeming qualities. They had a lot of shortcomings to begin with, (Ellie and Stephanie and several other characters) but then their 'lighter' side came out and you began to see more of the caring person they could grow into.

In the story Trinity suffers brain damage and reverts back to the intelligence of a young child. Suddenly she is possesed by these sudden spurts of writing and she seems to become more aware of who she was. This is both a lifeline and a dagger to those who love her because just a quickly she falls back into her child-like mind.

There are many different elements to this story which all work really well together. The 'story' Trinity writes really adds to the suspense, you're constantly wondering if they will figure out the mystery in time. All-in all I had a magical, crazy, heart-breaking ride and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Fill-in-the-Blanks Interview
Clare's answers are in blue.

I am a writer, a freelance editor/designer/web manager, a musician, and very excited to have fun with these fill in the blanks. To quote Futurama, “You let me worry about blank.”

I love kitties that sleep all day because then they’re not meowing in my face for food at inappropriate times; also, kitties are the cutest when they are sleepy.

In my spare time I like to browse the internet even though I have better things to do and play addictive computer games.

Terraria is a computer game that one never spends less than four hours at a time playing.

Sometimes I pretend I have lots of money and use it to pay off my student loan.

My favourite genres to write are YA science fiction, fantasy & horror/supernatural because I have an overactive imagination!

Money can always be re-earned, but time cannot.

I have never time-travelled into the past.

When I'm resourceful enough to own my own house, I will have a large library with spiralling staircases that reach to the ceiling.

My first kitty’s name was Lucy, and she was a very pretty kitty.

Within and The Violet Fox are my books, and you can find them at Faery Ink Press, Amazon, Smashwords, Kobo, & at McNally Robinson Booksellers!

Books are great ways to escape daily life. I would probably fail to do anything else if I sat around and read books all day.

Thank you so much Clare, I had a heap of fun! I can't wait until you get your giant library, it's one of my goals too! Mmm.. library.. *drools slightly*
