Bryn Halbrook had always seen the glow. But it is only when her best friend dies that she discovers the meaning of those beautiful golden auras — Death. Alone, lost in the foster system, she struggles to understand who she is and why she was cursed with the ability to see the soon-to-be-dead.

The new foster kid, Aidan, isn’t helping any. Mr. Perfect seems to fit in no matter what, making her feel even more pathetic. But when his affections turn to her, Bryn finds him hard to resist. Impossible actually. A mystery himself, Aidan disappears, leaving behind a broken heart and a mysterious book that suggests Bryn might not be entirely human.

Bryn stands at the threshold of a journey of discovery. Will destiny help her find herself, find her purpose and her place in a world in which she’d never belonged?

My Review

This book blew me away. The majority of books I've read recently have been paranormal and for me, everything was starting to get a bit old. This is not the case for Dead Radiance. The writing was refreshing as was the story and and it has rekindled the flame for paranormal books.

I adore fairytales, myths and legends so when I discovered this book was about Norse mythology, I was hooked! I only new bits and pieces about  Norse mythology (mainly about Loki, my neighbour finds his many forms and activities amusing) but I new nothing about Valkyries, so it was fantastic to learn about them!

I liked this book from the beginning, but it was only when we got further in that I really started to love the story. The writing improved and the characters grew into themselves - it was great!

In the beginning I wasn't a big fan of Bryn and Aidan's relationship. I've never been fond of insta-love in books, but I think it's more the insta-lust that I don't like. I think some insta-loves give off the feeling of 'he's so sexy - now I'm in love with him', it feels more like a relationship built of lust than love which is not my cup of tea. It felt as though Bryn and Aidan were a insta-lust relationship, especially since he was the first guy Bryn felt a romantic attraction to, but their relationship grew on me as the book progressed.

This book was a great mix of action, mystery, romance and mythology. I have high hopes for the next book in the series and am sure it will not let me down. I would definitely recommend it to any paranormal or mythology lovers!

Author Bio - T.G. Ayer

T.G. AyerTee has been a writer from the time she was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into her imagination. Poetry was her first foray into the art of the written word. Books were her best friends, her escape, her haven. She is essentially a recluse but this part of her personality is impossible to practise given she has two teenage daughters, who are actually her friends, her tea-makers, her confidantes… She is blessed with a husband who has left her for golf. It’s a fair trade as she has left him for writing. They are both passionate supporters of each other's loves – it works wonderfully…

Her heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where her old roots still remain, and her heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. Her love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of Tee has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because she is so torn between these two lands – she shall forever remain cross-eyed.

And where is The Descendant that is prophesied to save them all?

The first book in the series, Power, is FREE during the tour!

My Review

Hope picked up where Power left off, with only a short time between the two novels. Hope had the same feel as Power and if you liked the first book in the series, then you are sure to like the second.

It's always fun seeing a story from different points of view, and it's even more fun when you get to see from opposing sides! We got to see a lot of Lilith and get a feel for just how dark and twisted the Rising is. Lilith is brutal and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. It was both fascinating and repulsive to watch her - I loved it! The Order members were the complete opposite and was great being able to see from both sides of this war.

This book probably seems slow to some readers because there isn't really any action until the end, but this book tells a gorgeous story and the growth of the characters is amazing to watch. Samantha is still my favourite character and what she went through in this book was both fantastic and frightening. She is such a brave little girl and I love her to bits!

I easily slipped into this book, it flowed seamlessly from the first book, carrying across all the right moods and tones. I am really impressed with Theresa's ability to spin a story and know the more she writes, the better she will become, even as good as I find her already. I didn't quite realise the horror and destruction that was taking place in Power, but Hope really brought that to light and I was both shocked and appalled at what the world had became. This story makes you think and takes you along for a great ride. It's not an action-packed book, but it's engaging 'til the last!

Interview with Kriston Johnson

How long have you been writing?
I started writing in July of 2007. The first book I started was an adult, contemporary romance. Needless to say I did not make it very far with that endeavor. Fantasy is my true passion.

If Awakened were to be a movie, who would you cast in the leading roles?
Liam Hemsworth as Gabriel, Alexandra Daddario as Jade, JD Pardo as Theron, Chris Hemworth as Dezmon, and Jeremy Irons as Jesper.

Do you have any future stories in the works?
Yes. I am currently writing Transcended, the sequel to Awakened. I also have a young adult Viking story and a middle grade story outlined.

If you could live in any book, other than your own, which would it be?
Hands down, Harry Potter, and preferably in books one or two. At that point all of our favorites are still alive and the threat of Lord Voldemort does not over shadow ever thing as much.

This or That

Weapon of choice for impending zombie attack: Gun or Machete

Lord Voldemort or Darth Vader

Author Bio - Kriston Johnson

Kriston Johnson lives in Southwest Washington with her husband, teenage son, and miniature Australian Shepherd. Her home rests at the fringe of an old growth forest that she insists is the home of Jason Voorhees. Her husband thinks that’s a ridiculous assumption, because everyone knows it’s really Bigfoot. Every summer Kriston participates in the annual pilgrimage to Faerieworlds, a real life faerie realm here on Earth, and has an unhealthy obsession with Star Wars, The Vampire Diaries, and Iron Man. Awakened is her first novel. You can visit her online at www.kristonjohnson.blogspot.com.

The Universe Versus Alex Woods by Gavin Extence - Review

The Universe Versus Alex Woods by Gavin Extence

The Universe Versus Alex WoodsTitle: The Universe Versus Alex Woods

Series: N/A

Author: Gavin Extence

Published: 1st January 2013 by
Hodder & Stoughton

Source: Present.

Alex Woods knows that he hasn't had the most conventional start in life.
He knows that growing up with a clairvoyant single mother won't endear him to the local bullies.
He also knows that even the most improbable events can happen - he's got the scars to prove it, along with the rare meteorite that struck him on the head when he was ten years old.
What he doesn't know yet is that when he meets ill-tempered, reclusive widower Mr. Peterson, he'll make an unlikely friend. Someone who tells him that you only get one shot at life. That you have to make the best possible choices.
So when, aged seventeen, Alex is stopped at Dover customs with 113 grams of marijuana, an urn full of ashes on the passenger seat, and an entire nation in uproar, he's fairly sure he's done the right thing . . .

My Review

I was given this book as a Christmas present, which was indeed a welcome surprise because I'd been looking for something a little different than the usual Action/Adventure type books that I pick up.
From the moment I saw the cover I knew it was to be a good read and that view certainly wasn't let down.

From start to finish I found it to be quirky, captivating and thoroughly entertaining. Overall it was just a wonderfully interesting book.

The story is told through narration by the main character Alex Woods, which I think really helps to break the book down so that the reader can gain a better understanding of the story/characters and to further comprehend some of the rather controversial topics covered throughout the pages (which are covered with both sensitivity and maturity).

The author, Gavin Extence has written this book beautifully and I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up again or to recommend it another reader.

Writing a review for this book (without giving out too many details) turned out to be a lot harder than I had anticipated.

Echo by Alicia Wright Brewster Blog Tour - Review + Giveaways

Echo by Alicia Wright Brewster

EchoTitle: Echo

Series: N/A

The countdown clock reads ten days until the end of the world. The citizens are organized. Everyone's been notified and assigned a duty. The problem is . . . no one knows for sure how it will end.

Energy-hungry Mages are the most likely culprit. They travel toward a single location from every corner of the continent. Fueled by the two suns, each Mage holds the power of an element: air, earth, fire, metal, water, or ether. They harness their powers to draw energy from the most readily available resource: humans.

Ashara has been assigned to the Ethereal task force, made up of human ether manipulators and directed by Loken, a young man with whom she has a complicated past. Loken and Ashara bond over a common goal: to stop the Mages from occupying their home and gaining more energy than they can contain. But soon, they begin to suspect that the future of the world may depend on Ashara's death.

My Review

Echo is a Young Adult Sci-Fi Novel set on a new world that is set to end in ten days. In this world some people have special powers that give them the ability to wield a certain element. The main character, Ashara, learns that she has the ability to manipulate the element 'ether' and is put into one of many task forces that are trying to ascertain what will cause the destruction of the world and how it can be avoided.

The characters in this book are great and I would've loved to have heard more of their story. Some I only met briefly, but I was still immediately drawn into their lives and hearts, I would have loved to get to know them more.

The story was great! Some of the scenes weren't quite as action-packed and power-ridden as I'd thought they were going to be, but I still thoroughly enjoyed them. The idea of the new timelines was fantastic, though I didn't quite catch on at first, and I loved Loken's metal engravings.

The relationships in this book pulled at my heart, whether brotherly/sisterly or romantically inclined. The writing really captured the essence of the emotions and I was easily lost within the folds of each relationship.

I really enjoyed the ideas within this book and I thought the writing style was great, but I really think there needed to be more of this book. I think the idea would've done better as a series, or at least a much thicker book. Everything progressed a little too fast and I would've loved more detail in some places. However, the author did a fantastic job and if she can flesh out her stories a little more, I am sure she will have no trouble becoming a favourite author.
