King (Books of the Infinite, # 3)

King by R.J. Larson
Paperback, 352 pages
Published: 1st July 2013 by Bethany House

Akabe of Siphra is certain his people are insane.

Why have they made him a king?
What, in the name of peacetime boredom do kings do?

Frustrated by a lengthy silence from his Creator, the Infinite, Akabe decides to prove himself as king by undertaking a monumental task, his own lifelong dream: Rebuild the Infinite’s temple in Siphra.

But Akabe’s impulsive decision sweeps him into a storm of controversy. The Infinite’s enemies join forces in Siphra, and beyond, conspiring to destroy the emerging temple—and to kill their king and his mysterious new queen.

3. Istgard and Ytar: Romance and action--the balancing act

From Parne, the map shifts to Istgard and the beleaguered border town of Ytar. It is at this crossroads between two countries and the city-state of Parne that the plotline balancing act begins in earnest.

What balancing act, you ask?

Well, because the Books of the Infinite
series is written for guys and gals who love “high-end YA”, I strove to maintain a constant balance between action and romance, with drama and an occasional splash of comic relief to ease tension in the plot lines. And throughout this interweaving of action and romance, I added the tie that binds it all together—hints of the ancient accounts from scriptures that we’ve all grown up reading together.

This symmetry between lovely gowns, awesome weaponry, and pondering the eternal Word has inspired husbands and wives to read together. Parents have written to let me know that they are reading the series with their kids (and pushing back bedtimes).

I’m amazed, delighted, and…continuing the balancing act!
