Welcome to the next post in my blogoversary celebrations. This time it's just me and Jared with a special interview devised by him to give you a bit of insight into my life as a blogger. There is also an awesome giveaway at the end so you will definitely want to take a look at that!
Interview with.. Me!
What influenced you to start your own book blog?
I only discovered book blogs a few months before I started Pieces of Whimsy and of course, being the book lover that I am, I fell in love with the idea. I love telling people about my favourite books and I had always wanted to help those authors that had been so wonderful as to produce these masterpieces known as 'books'. I was so taken with the idea of a book blog that it wasn't long before I'd written up my very first review and started turning Pieces of Whimsy into what it is today!
What's your favourite part about running a blog?
The people. Sharing my bookish thoughts with them and seeing what they have to say. Helping them to find new books or get on their feet, or having them help me like with this blogoversary. The book blogging community is full of such wonderful, amazing people and I'm so happy to be a part of it!
Also, getting free books to review is also really awesome. ;)
Looking back at your blog over the last year, is there anything you would do differently?
Definitely! Though nothing really major. I would just organise more, especially at the start. Work out where I wanted things to be in a month, two, three, etc.. and figuring out how I would allocate my time so as to complete these things. I would also plan ahead a lot more and have as many posts as I could pre-made and scheduled so as not to leave things to the last minute, which is kind of my speciality.
What does running a book blog involve?
Organisation, determination, and fun! Not necessarily in that order.
Is there anything you would suggest to someone who would like to start their own blog?
Organise yourself before you get too caught up in all the fun of it. Make sure you have a time or day when you are able to get your posts up or pre-made and make sure you have a diary or something (Google Docs works well) to write down all your blogging commitments. It only takes one day, one illness, one 'I can't be bothered tonight', for you to get behind so having evertyhing all neatly organised makes it a hell of a lot easier!
And if you want to start your own blog, I think you should definitely go for it! It is one of the best experiences I've had (and will continue to have)!
Where do you see Pieces of Whimsy being in another years time?
Right here, as it is now, only twice as awesome and twice as fun! I don't care if I still have the same number of followers or number of pageviews, but I hope that I can have more of a set schedule of when and what posts will be as well as more awesome bookishness and I think some more reviews from my lovely assistant, Jared, of course! ;)
For this giveaway you can win any book that I have given a 4.5/5 or 5/5 star rating in the last year (so that's any book rated 4.5 or 5 on my blog). To find a list of the books with links to the reviews go here.
