Fill-in-the-Blanks Interview + Q&A with Scarlett Dawn + Giveaway - Escape Publishing's 1st Birthday

Fill-in-the-Blanks Interview with Scarlett Dawn
Scarlett's answers are in blue.

I am Scarlett Dawn. I write New Adult Fantasy. My debut novel was King Hall.

I love my family because they are my “home”.

In my spare time I like to watch movies and eat junk food.

Damian on the Vampire Diaries is a badass.

Sometimes my obsession with ice is weird – even to me.

My favourite shoes are ballet flats because they are way too comfortable not to wear.

Kid 1 can always make me laugh.

I have never been to Australia, and I would love to visit there.

When I'm driving, I’m in my most creative ‘place’.

My first kiss was in a bomb shelter.

Fries and cheese are heaven on a plate.

Books are hunger I feed daily.

Q&A Interview with Scarlett Dawn

Do you prefer the beginning of a story or the end?
The beginning.

What's one of your favourite quotes (it doesn't have to be from a book)?
Opportunity does not knock; it presents itself when you beat down the door.” ~ Kyle Chandler

What books/authors have influenced your writing?
Nalini Singh. Jennifer Estep. Chloe Neill. Karen Moning.

Did your story roughly follow what you had in mind or did it run off in a completely different direction?
It ran in a far, far off direction.

Where's your favourite place to go for inspiration?
On the road. Driving. Music blaring.

If you could, what three book characters would you invite to a dinner party and why?
Hmm. Probably Hawk from Nalini Singh’s Psy series. Ethan from Chloe Neill’s Vampire series. And Sin from the Forever Evermore Trilogies (he hasn’t been introduced yet). Who wouldn’t want to have dinner with them? LOL

What book(s) are you currently working on and do you have anything planned for the future?
I’m currently brainstorming a YA Sci-Fi. That’s the immediate work I have planned. It’s shaping up to be pretty interesting too.

Which of your works has had the most impact on you, as both a person and a writer?
Oddly, it was a contemporary series that I wrote – not published. It’s deep and heart wrenching. Maybe one day I’ll publish it.

What has been the biggest highlight, so far, in being a published author?
My fans. I guess it didn’t really occur to me that being published would mean that people would truly take an active interest in, not only my work, but me as an author as well. But it has happened. It has been really humbling.

I lurve my fans.

Any advice for aspiring authors?
The only sure way to fail is to quit.

Published: 1st April 2013 by Escape Publishing

A fresh, meaty, sink-your-teeth-in-and-hold-on-tight new adult fantasy series kicks off with King Hall…

King Hall (Forever Evermore, #1)
King Hall — where the Mysticals go to learn their craft, get their degrees, and transition into adulthood. And where four new Rulers will rise and meet their destinies.
Lily Ruckler is adept at one thing:  survival.  Born a Mystical hybrid, her mere existence is forbidden, but her nightmare is only about to start. Fluke, happenstance, and a deep personal loss finds Lily deeply entrenched with those who would destroy her simply for existing — The Mystical Kings.  Being named future Queen of the Shifters shoves Lily into the spotlight, making her one of the most visible Mysticals in the world. But with risk comes a certain solace — her burgeoning friendships with the other three Prodigies: a wicked Vampire, a wild-child Mage, and a playboy Elemental. Backed by their faith and trust, Lily begins to relax into her new life.
Then chaos erupts as the fragile peace between Commoners and Mysticals is broken, and suddenly Lily realises the greatest threat was never from within, and her fear takes on a new name: the revolution.
