Lost in a world full of monstrous fairies, a troubled sixteen year old has to find out who she is and why her memories were stolen before she is found by those who want her dead.

She takes the name “Memory” and knows she has just one goal – to find her way home, wherever that is. But this land is strange. No technology to be seen, and iron is banned, thanks to a pact the humans have with the magical creatures who share their pre-industrial era world. In her t-shirt and torn jeans, Memory knows she’s different, even before she performs impossible magic.

Haunted by her past, chased by a dragon, wanted by the king and stalked by the strange, handsome savage that seems to know her, everyone is after Memory, and she suspects it’s not just for her eye-catching outfit. Her forgotten past holds dangerous secrets that will challenge everything she believes and risk the lives of everyone she loves.

Memory’s Wake contains over 45 illustrations by the author and artist.

My Review

When I signed up for this tour I wasn't sure what this book was going to be like. I though the blurb sounded cool and interesting but I thought the cover, though beautifully illustrated, was a bit opposed to how the story sounded. Of course having read the book it makes sense and I definitely appreciate the cover more now.

This book is fantasy which is my favourite genre and it includes some of my favourite mythical beasts, namely dragons and the fae. I think Selina did a perfect job of capturing the fae, at least how I imagine them to be, and I really liked Mr. Dragon (not his real name.)

The characters in this book were all well thought out and I really enjoyed getting to know each of them. I loved them all and don't really have a favourite because as the focus switched between characters, so did my favouritism.

Memory was a very interesting character and I had many theories about her and her memory loss, some of which turned out to be right, and some turned out to be wrong. I got a bit confused about the order of things and people's ages (hard to explain what I'm talking about without giving away things) but I think even the characters did, so I feel better about that.

This book was a great read. Well written with fantastic characters and magical creatures. I loved the mystery and the romance and all the other fantastical bits inbetween. If you like your YA fantasy filled with dragons and faeries, you've come to the right place! err... book!

  5. I actually have Memory's Wake on my Kindle, and I started reading it a while back. I had to put it aside because i had some other books that had to be read, and forgot about it. I am very glad I saw your review in your review list and checked it out. I had enjoyed the little that I had read, and your review made me want to revisit!
